In the last days again and again a bot pasted spam in some of the english wiki pages.

Since the pages need a correct forum login to allow editing this bot has to be on the computer of someone registered here and browsing the wiki pages - and it has to be someone browsing the english pages because only the english wiki pages get modified by the bot.

Please check your PCs for hidden bots and install a protection against such a thing (an antivirus program doesn't help in most cases).
One of the programs that can detect and remove bots can be downloaded from
www.spybot.info (Spybot - Search&Destroy)

And please check as fast as possible - I don't have time to remove spam every day...

There once was a forum-registered bot...
and it is always possible to hack a page
only as a hint

of course - but in that case the bot would post everywhere on the wiki and not only in the english pages - and a few months ago Jim increased the protection against bots.
(and one or two weeks ago one of the translators removed several bots from his PC, but it looks like he wasn't the only one infected)

So better let everyone check, doesn't hurt anyway...

The Wiki don't have any Spam protection and you haven't register to post anything there. The english pages are modified because it is default if you don't use a german browser ...

It might not have been added intentionally, but somehow somewhen there was a check added to the wiki.
I just tested it:

If you're logged off from the forum and enter an unused name as the author for changing a wiki side (e.g. "tester"), the wiki refuses to save but only displays the preview - even on the testing page.

If you enter an autor name that is already the forum name of someone else, it requires you to enter the password of the other user, refusing any access if you don't enter it.

Please try it - you can't post as someone else or without login. However the bots probably found a loophole in that protection since they post under non-existing names...

The Problem is, the first letter of username have to be a upper char ("Tester" for example). The wiki don't have any connection to the forum. The "passwort enter"-dialog always appeaes if you used an author which has a profile-file (Profiles/xxx) in the wiki which is protected with a write password.

Well I don't think that it would be a mistake if everyone of us uses a spybot, because mine is finding several cookies and even registry-entries in the IE every other day on my PC, so for the future I surely will use the scanner before I start translating the wiki.

I stopped deleting the spam after I realised that the bot always posts in the same (and up to now unused) Topic, and that several times a day...

So we can all ignore that page until we have something to stop that bot...
