At the moment, there is no other way to leave the ground combat than let the soldiers alone. You will lose the soldiers and their whole equip, but there's no other way at the moment. Later, there will be area where you can retreat.
And no, you can't save during ground combat. |

Wrong,
in the menu accessible by ESC there is a button to abort the mission.
An Natter reprogrammed that a while ago (I don't know which version changed this, might be one of the 915-alpha's) so that you only loose those soldiers who are visible to aliens when aborting. So move your soldiers into areas where the aliens can't see them and abort the mission then. |

That problem with the esc-key has come up before.
Unfortunately it isn't consistent - sometimes the key works normal and registers every hit, othertimes you need to hit the key a dozen times before something happens.
And because we couldn't reproduce the problem in a consistent way we haven't found the source yet... |

Would help knowing the alien's field of vision regarding where they can "see"(if the player can see them). Maybe like a thickish red line around the area the alien can see, some of the descriptions lead me to believe some aliens are more perceptive vision wise than others. |

not yet - the only thing that differs with aliens is the sight range, not the width. |
